The Executive Council

The Executive Council is the executive body of the Organization and is responsible for implementing the decisions adopted by the General Assembly and directing the activities of the ICDO accordingly.

It ensures continuity in the governance of the Organization between sessions of the General Assembly and considers matters relating to the protection and rescue of populations and property at the international level.

Preparation and Coordination

Prepares the agenda of the Assembly and provides guidance to technical commissions in the preparation of their work.

Finance and Immediate Action

Manages the finances of the Organization and may take measures in cases requiring immediate action.

How the Council Operates

Election

Members are elected by the General Assembly with due regard to equitable geographical distribution.

Term of Office

Members are elected for a term of four years.

Renewal

One half of the members is renewed every two years.

Sessions

The Council meets at least once a year and may hold special sessions when required.

The Council elects its President and Vice-President from among its members.

Core Functions

In addition to implementing Assembly decisions, the Executive Council studies matters relating to international protection and rescue, submits reports to the Assembly, manages the Organization’s finances, and may authorize urgent action where necessary.
