At the invitation of Colonel Major Abd Essamed Benjeddou, Director General of the National Office of Civil Protection of Tunisia (ONPC) and current President of the General Assembly of the ICDO, the Secretary General of the ICDO, H.E. YAP MARIATOU, began a working visit to Tunisia on February 14, 2023, which will end on February 18, 2023. She is accompanied by Mr. Lotfi Aouadi and Mrs. Andréa Nougi-Booh.

The purpose of the visit is to learn about the facilities offered by the Tunisian National School of Civil Protection in Jebel Jloud.

This visit is part of the implementation of the recommendations of the 6th meeting of Directors General and Directors of Civil Protection which was held in Rabat on September 13 and 14, 2022. Indeed, the 3rd recommendation was, for member countries, to submit to the Permanent Secretariat the applications of their establishments as potential regional schools.

The designation of a regional training school in civil defence, be it that of Tunisia or another African country, will serve as a basis for setting up the regional strategy of the ICDO. This strategy is based on 3 entities: the Regional Center for Emergency Operations, the Regional Warehouse and the Regional Training School.

It should be noted that Tunisia has been a member of the ICDO since April 7, 1970 and since then its interest in the Organization has never waned. Moreover, the position of Secretary General of the ICDO was held for 15 years (1987-2002) by a Tunisian, Colonel Sadok Zenaidi.
