On July 23, 2025, the Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), Mr. Arguj Kalantarli, met with Mr. Heydar Ali Ahmad, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Syria to the United Nations Office in Geneva and specialized institutions in Switzerland, at the headquarters of the ICDO.

The two sides engaged in a meaningful dialogue aimed at fostering closer institutional ties and exploring new avenues of collaboration between the Republic of Syria and the ICDO.

Both sides emphasized the potential for organizing joint training programs, professional development courses, and technical workshops aimed at strengthening national capacities. In addition, the role and possible contribution of the ICDO in supporting Syria’s rebuilding efforts were explored, with a focus on civil defence and disaster-resilient infrastructure.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to maintaining open lines of communication and building a long-term, effective partnership based on common objectives in the field of civil defence and disaster risk management.
