On 29 October 2025, the Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), Mr. Arguj Kalantarli, met with Ms. Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG). The meeting took place at the Palais des Nations and focused on strengthening institutional cooperation between ICDO and the United Nations system in Geneva.
Discussions covered a wide range of issues, including ICDO’s observer status at the UN General Assembly, the Organization’s participation in Geneva-based multilateral mechanisms, and prospects for enhanced cooperation with UN bodies. Both sides underlined the importance of closer coordination and collaboration in disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness, and humanitarian response fields.
The Secretary-General emphasized ICDO’s commitment and interest in contributing to disaster risk reduction efforts and in working closely with the UN system and its bodies in building resilience and protecting communities. In this context, Ms. Valovaya expressed appreciation for ICDO’s engagement and encouraged continued dialogue aimed at ensuring the Organization’s active participation in Geneva’s multilateral processes.
Both sides agreed on the value of maintaining close coordination and exploring concrete avenues of partnership to further strengthen mutual relations and collaboration, and to contribute to international humanitarian and disaster-management efforts.
