Secretary-General of the ICDO met with the Minister of Interior of the Republic of Sudan

On 9 December 2025, the Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), Mr. Arguj Kalantarli, met with the Minister of Interior of the Republic of the Sudan, Mr. Babeker Samra Mostafa Ali, at ICDO’s new Headquarters located in the Nations District in Geneva.

The parties addressed the current humanitarian situation in Sudan, the country’s immediate needs arising from ongoing challenges, and potential avenues for cooperation between Sudan and the ICDO as a member state. They explored possible joint initiatives in capacity-building, training, equipment provision, strengthening early-warning systems, and areas of humanitarian support where ICDO could assist Sudan.

The meeting also provided a constructive platform to discuss ICDO’s ongoing institutional modernization and reform efforts, as well as the Organization’s current activities and upcoming initiatives under its mandate. Discussions also highlighted the measures being implemented to ensure the effective functioning and full operationalization of ICDO’s work at its new Headquarters.

The Sudanese Minister extended his congratulations on ICDO’s successful relocation to a new and prestigious headquarters and commended the Secretary-General for the substantial progress achieved since assuming office.

Both sides further discussed prospects for enhancing bilateral cooperation, including deeper engagement with relevant national institutions and academic entities.

The meeting reaffirmed the longstanding partnership between ICDO and the Republic of Sudan, underscoring their shared commitment to strengthening civil protection mechanisms, improving preparedness and resilience, and advancing cooperative efforts for the benefit of affected populations.
