On 6 January 2026, the Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), Mr. Arguj Kalantarli, met with Mr. Daniel Meron, Permanent Representative of the Israel to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations, at ICDO’s Headquarters in Geneva.

 The meeting focused on the humanitarian situation in Gaza and on issues related to humanitarian needs. In this context, the parties exchanged views on ICDO’s planned humanitarian assistance project aimed at supporting affected civilian populations.

Discussions addressed the operational framework for the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip through Israeli territory. It was noted that ICDO has obtained the necessary formal authorization from the competent Israeli authorities to enable the transit and delivery of humanitarian aid.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on other potential areas of cooperation of mutual interest, within the scope of humanitarian action, civil protection, and emergency response between ICDO and the State of Israel.
