On the occasion of World Civil Defence Day 2026, celebrated under the theme “Managing Environmental Risks for a Resilient and Sustainable Future,” the General Directorate of Civil Protection of Algeria organized a broad programme of events across the country.
According to the materials provided, the activities were held during the last week of February and the first week of March and included official ceremonies, awareness campaigns, scientific lectures, open days, equipment exhibitions, field demonstrations, and first-aid training sessions. The programme also involved schoolchildren, students, local authorities, civil society representatives, media, and members of the public.
The official ceremony at the headquarters of the General Directorate of Civil Protection was attended by the Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities and Transport, Mr. Said Sayoud, together with senior officials and representatives of partner institutions. The materials note that the event highlighted the role of civil protection in risk prevention, preparedness, response, and public awareness, including in the context of environmental, natural, and technological risks.
According to the summary received, activities throughout the country also included educational outreach for children and young people, presentations on flood and forest fire risks, information on environmental pollution, demonstrations of rescue and firefighting equipment, and operational simulations covering fires, road traffic accidents, floods, and chemical, biological, radiological, and related hazards.
