The Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organization, Mr. Arguj Kalantarli, held an online meeting with Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), on 31 August 2026. The meeting provided an opportunity to review the current cooperation between Nigeria and the ICDO and discuss ways to further advance it.
The discussions focused on enhancing practical cooperation, with particular emphasis on strengthening Nigeria’s participation in ICDO training programmes and promoting exchanges of expertise and professional experience. The two sides also exchanged views on opportunities to further develop capacity-building initiatives and cooperation in the field of civil protection and early warning systems.
Both sides also discussed the ICDO’s ongoing institutional reform and modernization initiatives, efforts to strengthen and diversify the Organization’s international cooperation and engagement with both Member States and non-member States, as well as preparations for the Organization’s forthcoming sessions. Appreciation was also expressed for Nigeria’s continued support for these initiatives. The importance of strengthening Member States’ active engagement in the Organization’s activities and initiatives was also emphasized.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to further expanding cooperation and maintaining close coordination in support of stronger civil protection and disaster preparedness.
