The International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO) continues its mission to strengthen disaster response capacities among its member states. In line with this, the Fire State Academy recently conducted a specialized training program titled “Extinguishing Fires in Oil Facilities and Refineries”, aimed at addressing the unique challenges posed by fire incidents in the oil and gas sector.
The course brought together representatives from 10 ICDO member countries, including Azerbaijan, Cameroon, Ghana, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Niger, Senegal, Serbia, and Tunisia. This diverse participation fostered a collaborative environment for knowledge-sharing and mutual learning.
The curriculum covered critical aspects of firefighting specific to oil facilities and refineries, such as:
Participants engaged in practical exercises simulating real-life fire scenarios in oil and gas facilities. These drills emphasized rapid assessment, strategic planning, and efficient use of specialized firefighting tools.
A significant focus was placed on ensuring the safety of responders and minimizing environmental damage, particularly in handling hazardous materials and post-fire containment measures.
The training equipped participants with the skills and knowledge to respond effectively to fire incidents in high-risk industrial environments. It also reinforced cooperation among ICDO member states, creating a platform for continued collaboration in enhancing civil defense preparedness.
