ADDRESS
by the Minister for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus Vadim Sinyavsky on the occasion of the membership of the Republic of Belarus in the International Civil Defence Organisation (ICDO)
Distinguished Representatives of the International Civil Defence Organization Member States and Observer States, dear colleagues and allies!
On December 3, 2024, the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed the Law on the Accession of the Republic of Belarus to the Constitution of the International Civil Defence Organization. This marks a new stage of cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the ICDO, now in full member status.
Over the years of participation in the ICDO activities as an observer, we have developed a high level of cooperation with the organization and established relationship of trust with Member States.
The Republic of Belarus has traditionally been a responsible and reliable partner. Experience and achievements of our country allow us to say with confidence that Belarus will contribute to the ICDO activities, which will support increasing the level of population and territories protection from natural and man-made disasters.
The Ministry for Emergency Situations (MES) is a public authority which is mandated to ensure emergency prevention and response, provision of civil defence, fire, industrial, nuclear and radiation safety in the Republic of Belarus. The Ministry has been performing efficient activity in civil protection and disaster risk management for 30 years.
The MES currently fulfills international obligations under more than 70 bilateral and multilateral agreements. Emphasizing the importance of international humanitarian and rescue response in the global agenda, the Republic of Belarus regularly provides assistance to countries affected by natural disasters and catastrophes.
In this regard, I would like to stress the high significance of international cooperation under the ICDO auspices and reaffirm our commitment to jointly move towards innovative development for the benefit of human safety in our countries.
We are open to any form of cooperation aimed at improving disaster preparedness capacity and finding reliable solutions for disaster risk management.
By working together, we can achieve success in provision of safety in the area of the ICDO countries.
I sincerely count on your support and active participation in achievement of our common goals, as well as promoting ideas of peace, creation and progress.
