Section "Technosphere Safety in the Arctic" within the VIII International Scientific and Practical Conference "Universe of the Polar Bear: Effective Cooperation in the Arctic"
On March 21, 2025, the Saint Petersburg University of State Fire Service of EMERCOM of Russia held the section "Technosphere Safety in the Arctic" as part of the VIII International Scientific and Practical Conference "Universe of the Polar Bear: Effective Cooperation in the Arctic." Participants discussed issues related to the safety of the population, infrastructure, and industry in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation.
The event brought together representatives of government bodies, businesses, the scientific and expert communities, public organizations, the media, and international centers. Among the distinguished guests were the Consul General of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Saint Petersburg, Mr. Aung Phei The, and the Acting Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), Mr. Roman Lapin. Mr. Lapin emphasized ICDO's openness to cooperation in this area, including with ICDO member states, and highlighted the importance of collaboration in scientific and educational projects.
Special attention was given to extreme medicine, first aid, and the training of firefighters and rescuers for emergency response in Arctic conditions. The head of Saint Petersburg University of the State Fire Service of EMERCOM of Russia, Bogdan Gavkalyuk, underscored the importance of assessing the risks of technogenic processes to ensure national security in the region.
