The Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), Mr. Arguj Kalantarli, held an online meeting with Colonel Boualem Bourelaf, Director General of Civil Protection of Algeria, on 14 September 2026. Both sides welcomed the opportunity to engage in a constructive exchange on the development of relations between Algeria and the ICDO and on prospects for further advancing their cooperation.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review the longstanding partnership between Algeria and the Organization, with particular recognition of Algeria’s sustained engagement as a Member State and its active role within the ICDO Executive Council. Appreciation was also expressed for Algeria’s continued support and active participation in the Organization’s activities and initiatives.
The Secretary-General briefed the Director General on the latest developments within the ICDO, including the Organization’s ongoing reform and modernization process. The discussions highlighted the importance of strengthening the Organization’s effectiveness and further developing its institutional and international engagement, including through enhanced relations with Member States and non-member States and broader international outreach and diversification.
The two sides also exchanged views and proposals on ways to make their cooperation more substantive, with particular attention to expanding joint training and capacity-building opportunities, exchanges of expertise, and other practical areas of mutual interest. Preparations for the ICDO’s forthcoming statutory sessions and related processes were also discussed.
The meeting further addressed a range of other matters of mutual interest. Both sides expressed their shared interest in further strengthening institutional cooperation and exploring new avenues for practical engagement.
