On September 1st, the Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), Mr. Arguj Kalantarli, met with the Permanent Representative of the Switzerland to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, and President of the United Nations Human Rights Council, H.E. Mr. Jürg Lauber.
During the meeting, the Secretary-General expressed his gratitude to the Government of Switzerland for its continued support in hosting the Organization in Geneva and highly appreciated the existing partnership with the host country on behalf of the ICDO.
The parties exchanged views on strengthening international cooperation in the field of civil defence, with a particular focus on emergency preparedness and risk management. Mr. Kalantarli emphasized the importance of establishing a long-term and mutually beneficial cooperation between the ICDO and the relevant institutions of the Swiss Confederation. Also, Ambassador Lauber underlined the growing significance of civil defence in the context of global security and sustainable development.
The meeting also featured discussions on the prospects for future cooperation and the reinforcement of the international civil defence network through sustained and reliable partnerships.
