On 29 April, the Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organization, Mr. Arguj Kalantarli, held an online meeting with H.E. Raed Alsaleh, Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management of the Syrian Arab Republic.
The meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, with particular emphasis on strengthening and further expanding cooperation between the ICDO and the Syrian Arab Republic. The long-standing membership and active engagement of the Syrian Arab Republic within the Organization were highly appreciated, and both sides expressed confidence in and commitment to further deepening cooperation across relevant fields.
Discussions also covered current operational activities of the ICDO, including ongoing reforms and modernization efforts aimed at enhancing the Organization’s effectiveness, responsiveness, and overall institutional capacity.
In this regard, the progress achieved in advancing the ICDO’s development agenda was positively noted. Furthermore, the parties explored opportunities to broaden cooperation in areas related to emergency preparedness, disaster risk management, and humanitarian response.
The meeting took place in a constructive and forward-looking atmosphere, during which other issues of mutual interest were also discussed. Both sides expressed strong confidence in the continued development and strengthening of cooperation.
