The Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), Mr. Arguj Kalantarli, held an online meeting with Major General Mohsen Kadhim Alak, Director General of Civil Defense of Iraq, on 21 September 2026. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on the development of cooperation between Iraq and the ICDO and on prospects for further strengthening practical engagement.

Both sides discussed current developments within the ICDO, including the Organization’s ongoing reform and modernization process and its current initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation with Member States, as well as enhancing international cooperation with non-member States and other international partner organizations. Particular attention was given to opportunities for enhancing Iraq’s engagement in the Organization’s training programmes, initiatives and activities.

Major General Alak expressed Iraq’s continued support for the ICDO and its initiatives and activities. The Secretary-General conveyed his appreciation for Iraq’s support and emphasized the importance of further developing practical cooperation, including through training, capacity-building, exchanges of expertise and other areas of mutual interest.

Both sides expressed their interest in maintaining close dialogue and identifying further opportunities to strengthen cooperation and engagement between Iraq and the ICDO.
