On 15 May 2026, the Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), Mr. Arguj Kalantarli, held an online meeting with Mr. Abdel Aziz Bio Djibril, Director General of the Benin Civil Protection Agency.

The meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, with particular emphasis on strengthening cooperation between the ICDO and the Republic of Benin in the field of civil protection and disaster risk management. Discussions also addressed the disaster-related challenges most frequently faced by Benin, and other natural hazards affecting the country.

During the discussions, the parties exchanged views on the current activities and reforms of the ICDO, including ongoing efforts aimed at enhancing the Organization’s effectiveness and operational capacity. The importance of active engagement and continued cooperation between the ICDO and its Member States was also underlined, and Benin expressed its full support for all these ongoing processes and initiatives.

Special attention was given to training programmes being conducted by the Organization and capacity-building activities within the framework of the ICDO. In this regard, opportunities for broader and more active participation of Benin in ICDO training initiatives and related activities were discussed.

The meeting was held in a constructive and productive atmosphere, during which both sides reaffirmed their willingness to further develop cooperation and maintain close coordination on issues of common interest.
