On 12 July 2026, the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), in cooperation with the Jordan International Civil Protection Center, launched the international training course “Management of Refugee Camps and Disaster Victims” in Al-Muwaqqar, Jordan.
The five-day programme brings together participants from ICDO Member States and is designed to strengthen professional capacities in the management of refugee camps, humanitarian assistance, and emergency response during large-scale displacement and disaster situations.
The curriculum combines theoretical instruction with practical field activities. Participants will study international humanitarian principles, the SPHERE standards, UNHCR guidelines for refugee camp planning and management, risk assessment, registration procedures, and approaches to strengthening the resilience of both displaced populations and host communities.
The practical component includes visits to a refugee camp, the Jordanian Directorate of Refugee Affairs, and national institutions responsible for crisis and emergency management, providing participants with first-hand insight into Jordan's experience in refugee camp management and humanitarian coordination.
The course is conducted in Arabic and is intended for civil defence personnel, firefighters, rescuers, and emergency response professionals.
Through initiatives of this kind, ICDO continues to strengthen the professional capacities of its Member States, promote international cooperation, and facilitate the exchange of expertise in civil protection and humanitarian response.
