The Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), Mr. Arguj Kalantarli, held an online meeting with Ms. Armela Nguema, Director General of Civil Protection of the Gabonese Republic, on 24 August 2026. The meeting highlighted Gabon’s longstanding membership in the ICDO and the importance of further strengthening institutional cooperation between the two sides.
The discussions focused on enhancing Gabon’s engagement with the ICDO and exploring areas of mutual interest, including the Organization’s ongoing institutional reform process and efforts to further strengthen its engagement with both Member States and non-member States within the framework of its international cooperation.
Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of Gabon’s more active participation in the activities of the Organization, including its training programmes and statutory sessions, as well as on further strengthening institutional ties and practical engagement between Gabon and the ICDO.
Secretary-General Kalantarli also underlined the importance of strengthening the ICDO’s cooperation with its Member States and enhancing their involvement in the Organization’s ongoing and forthcoming initiatives. Ms. Armela Nguema, in turn, expressed Gabon’s support for the Organization’s current efforts and initiatives.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their interest in maintaining close coordination and further strengthening cooperation between the ICDO and the Gabonese Republic.
