On 12 August 2026, the Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), Mr. Arguj Kalantarli, held an online meeting with Brig. Gen. Abou El Maali El Hadi Sidi Ould Amer, Director General of Civil Protection and Crisis Management of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
The exchange provided an opportunity to discuss the current cooperation between the ICDO and Mauritania and consider practical avenues for taking it further, including through closer engagement in the Organization’s programmes and initiatives. The longstanding role of Mauritania as an ICDO Member State was also acknowledged in the course of the discussions.
The Secretary-General briefed the Mauritanian side on the Organization’s current activities, institutional development and ongoing reform efforts, as well as initiatives aimed at strengthening its operational and cooperation capacities. He also conveyed his appreciation for Mauritania’s continued support for the ICDO and its ongoing initiatives.
The two sides discussed ways to expand Mauritania’s involvement in ICDO training and capacity-building activities, including opportunities for joint engagement in relevant programmes and the exchange of professional expertise and experience.
The discussion further covered preparedness and resilience in the face of evolving disaster risks, with attention to opportunities for closer cooperation through the ICDO’s International Monitoring and Coordination Centre (IMCC) and its capabilities.
The meeting concluded with both sides expressing their readiness to further develop their partnership in areas of mutual interest.
