The Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), Mr. Arguj Kalantarli, heading an ICDO delegation, paid an official visit to the Republic of Belarus to participate in the ceremonial events dedicated to the celebration of Fire Service Day of the Republic of Belarus. Within the framework of the official visit, on 24 July 2026, the Secretary-General held a meeting with Mr. Vadim Sinyavsky, Minister for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus.
The meeting focused on further strengthening cooperation between the ICDO and the Ministry for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus, particularly in the areas of civil protection, emergency preparedness, professional training, capacity-building, and the exchange of expertise.
During the discussions, the Secretary-General briefed the Minister on the ICDO's ongoing activities, institutional reform process, and preparations for the forthcoming sessions of the Organization's governing bodies. The parties also exchanged views on Belarus' active participation in ICDO training programmes and explored opportunities to further strengthen practical cooperation between the Organization and the Ministry. Appreciation was also expressed for the Republic of Belarus' continued and steadfast support for the ICDO's ongoing initiatives.
Minister Sinyavsky also highly appreciated the close and constructive cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the ICDO, welcomed the progress achieved by the Organization under the Secretary-General's leadership, and reaffirmed Belarus' continued support for the ICDO's efforts to enhance its effectiveness and international standing.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening cooperation and promoting joint initiatives aimed at enhancing civil protection, disaster preparedness, and international cooperation.
