On 7 August 2026, the Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), Mr. Arguj Kalantarli, held an online meeting with General Dr. Roden Loro Karlo, Commissioner General of the National Civil Defence Service of the Republic of South Sudan.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss ways of further strengthening cooperation between the ICDO and the Republic of South Sudan and to explore opportunities for enhancing the country’s engagement in the activities of the Organization.
The discussions also focused on the ICDO’s efforts to expand its international cooperation and strengthen practical engagement with its Member States, emphasizing the importance of close dialogue and stronger cooperation mechanisms with national civil protection authorities.
Particular attention was given to opportunities for South Sudan to benefit more actively from the ICDO’s training, capacity-building and other technical cooperation initiatives, with a view to supporting the further development of national civil protection capabilities.
Both sides emphasized the ICDO’s readiness to work closely with South Sudan and other Member States in advancing shared priorities in civil protection, emergency preparedness and disaster risk reduction, while acknowledging South Sudan’s continued support for the Organization’s current activities and initiatives. The discussions reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining regular coordination and further developing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
