The Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), Mr. Arguj Kalantarli, held an online meeting with Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon, Director General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) of the Republic of Ghana, on 10 August 2026.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss ways of further strengthening cooperation between the ICDO and the Republic of Ghana and to explore opportunities for enhancing Ghana’s engagement in the activities and initiatives of the Organization.

The discussions addressed Ghana’s priorities in disaster management and the importance of strengthening preparedness, resilience and effective response to disaster risks. Particular attention was given to opportunities for further cooperation in training, capacity-building and technical activities, including closer participation of Ghanaian specialists in ICDO programmes.

The meeting also highlighted the ICDO’s ongoing institutional development and efforts to strengthen international cooperation and engagement among Member States, as well as preparations for the Organization’s upcoming statutory sessions. In this context, appreciation was expressed for Ghana’s continued support for the ICDO’s ongoing initiatives and reform efforts.

The meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere, with both sides expressing their readiness to further strengthen cooperation and maintain regular dialogue on matters of common interest
