The Secretary General of ICDO, H.E. Mariatou YAP has arrived in Banjul, Gambia on Monday 23 January 2023 for a working visit. She is accompanied by Mr Abdoulaye Noba, Director of Civil Defence of Senegal, Ms Saltanat Tashmatova, Director of International Cooperation and Ms Andrea Nougi-Booh, Assistant to the Secretary General.

The objective of the visit is to finalize the process of accession of The Gambia as Member of ICDO.

Yesterday, 24 January 2023, the delegation of ICDO was welcomed at the National Disaster Management Agency by its Executive Director Mr SANNA DAHABA. Both parties presented their mandates and missions and considered perspectives of cooperation.

 

On 25 January 2023, the Secretary General of ICDO, H.E. Mrs Mariatou YAP was granted an audience by H.E. ADAMA BARROW, President of The Gambia at the State House. 

 

During the discussions, they considered perspectives of cooperation between The Gambia and ICDO. The Secretary General thanked the President for supporting the process of accession of The Gambia. 

She went on to present the history of ICDO with its mandate.

Among the challenges ahead of ICDO, she mentioned the need to pool resources through a Regional strategy that will benefit to all African Member States. 

 

The Gambian President thanked the Secretary General of ICDO for her interest in the Gambian Civil defence national system. He recalled the various disasters that The Gambia has witnessed and emphasized on the need for his country to strengthen its capacities.

 

The audience was attended by Mr SANNA DAHABA, Executive Director of NDMA accompanied by his staff, Mr Abdoulaye NOBA, Director of Civil Defence of Senegal, Ms Saltanat TASHMATOVA, Director of International Cooperation, Ms Andrea NOUGI-BOOH, Assistant to the Secretary General. 

 

On a sad note, the Secretary General offered her sincere condolences to the Gambian President for the death of Mr ALIEU BADARA JOOF, Vice-President of The Gambia who was buried on 23 January 2023.
