On 6 October 2025, the Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organization, Mr. Arguj Kalantarli, held a meeting with H.E. Ms. Ann-Kathryne Lassègue, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Haiti to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva.

The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between the ICDO and the Republic of Haiti, with particular emphasis on disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness, and capacity-building in civil defence.

Mr. Kalantarli highlighted Haiti’s specific vulnerability to natural hazards, including hurricanes and earthquakes, and expressed the ICDO’s readiness to explore avenues of practical support and technical collaboration to assist the country in enhancing its resilience.

H.E. Ms. Lassègue reaffirmed the Republic of Haiti’s commitment to deepening engagement with the ICDO and stressed the importance of international solidarity in addressing the severe challenges faced by vulnerable nations.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to identify prospective areas of joint action, including training, knowledge exchange, and project-based cooperation aimed at strengthening Haiti’s national civil defence and disaster management capacities.
