On 9 October 2025, the Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), Mr. Arguj Kalantarli, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Hassan Hamid Hassan, Permanent Representative of the Republic of the Sudan to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva and Mr. Mohammed Elmuatasim Akasha Mohammed Ali, Director of Executive Office of the Ministry of Interior of Sudan. The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between the ICDO and the Republic of the Sudan, particularly in civil defence, disaster risk reduction, and emergency preparedness.
Mr. Kalantarli commended Sudan’s longstanding membership and active participation in ICDO activities, highlighting its engagement in various training and capacity-building programmes.
He reaffirmed the Organization’s readiness to expand technical collaboration and strengthen cooperation through the International Monitoring and Coordination Centre (IMCC) to enhance national resilience, improve information exchange, and ensure more effective coordination in emergency response.
Mr. Hassan Hamid Hassan reaffirmed Sudan’s commitment to deepening engagement with ICDO and noted that enhanced cooperation in preparedness and response would be particularly valuable in light of the current situation in Sudan.
