At the Saint Petersburg University of State Fire Service of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation, the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO) conducted an international training course titled “Organization of Search and Rescue Operations in Collapsed Buildings and Structures.”
The training gathered 11 specialists from the fire and rescue agencies of ICDO Member States — Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Jordan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Senegal, Serbia, and Sudan. The program was aimed at exchanging experience and improving professional competencies in rescue operations, with a focus on leadership and coordination of search and rescue efforts in collapse conditions.
The course included lectures and seminars on the theory and classification of collapses, tactics and technologies of rescue operations, and modern methods for locating victims. Practical exercises covered reconnaissance and structural stability assessment, ensuring rescuer safety, and the use of rescue tools and equipment.
The successful completion of the program contributed to strengthening the capacities of national rescue services and advancing international cooperation in the field of civil protection.
