ICDO Secretary-General Meets with the Permanent Representative of Hungary to the United Nations Office in Geneva

On 15 October 2025, the Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), Mr. Arguj Kalantarli, held a meeting with H.E. Ms. Zsófia Havasi, Permanent Representative of Hungary to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva.

The meeting focused on exploring avenues for cooperation between the ICDO and the Republic of Hungary in the fields of civil protection, disaster risk reduction, and emergency preparedness. The parties also discussed Hungary’s prospective engagement within the ICDO framework, including the possibility of future membership.

During the meeting, Mr. Kalantarli presented an overview of the Organization’s mandate, structure, and ongoing modernization process, as well as the activity possibilities in Monitoring and Coordination as part of ICDO’s operational framework dedicated to supporting Member States in information exchange, early warning, and coordination of emergency response efforts.

H.E. Ms. Havasi expressed appreciation for the briefing and commended ICDO’s role in promoting international solidarity and institutional capacity-building in disaster management. She reaffirmed Hungary’s openness to exploring structured cooperation with the Organization and to considering possible forms of participation within its institutional framework.

Both sides agreed to maintain constructive dialogue and identify practical avenues to advance cooperation, with a view to strengthening collective preparedness and resilience at both national and international levels.
