On 8 June 2026, an international training course entitled “Innovative Methods for Extinguishing Large Fires in Urban Environments (High-Rise Buildings)” commenced at the Saint Petersburg University of the State Fire Service of EMERCOM of Russia under the auspices of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO).
The programme, which will run until 19 June 2026, is aimed at enhancing the qualifications of managerial and operational personnel of fire and rescue services from ICDO Member States. Participants include representatives of the competent authorities of Azerbaijan, Algeria, Armenia, Belarus, Benin, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Jordan, Cameroon, Morocco, Senegal, and Tunisia.
The training programme focuses on modern approaches to combating large-scale fires in densely populated urban environments and high-rise buildings. Particular attention is devoted to firefighting operations at complex facilities, personnel safety, and the application of advanced technologies in emergency response operations.
The course also includes a series of practical field exercises designed to simulate real-life operational conditions. Leading specialists in fire safety, including experts from the Lakhta Center multifunctional complex and other major infrastructure facilities in the region, have been involved in the programme. This provides participants with an opportunity to study advanced engineering solutions and practical approaches to ensuring the safety of unique structures.
The implementation of international training programmes under the auspices of ICDO contributes to strengthening professional capacities among Member States, promoting the exchange of expertise, and enhancing international cooperation in the field of disaster prevention and emergency response.
