ICDO Secretary-General Holds Online Meeting with the Director General of Civil Protection of the Republic of Niger

On 22 June 2026, the Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), Mr. Arguj Kalantarli, held an online meeting with Colonel Major Bako Boubacar, Director General of Civil Protection of the Republic of Niger.

The discussions focused on further strengthening cooperation between the ICDO and the Republic of Niger in the field of civil protection and disaster risk management, with particular emphasis on deepening the longstanding partnership between the two sides.

During the meeting, Mr. Kalantarli provided an overview of the ongoing reform process and current activities of the ICDO aimed at enhancing the Organization’s effectiveness, operational capabilities and cooperation mechanisms, with the Nigerien side expressing its full support for these efforts and both sides reaffirming the importance of close coordination and active engagement of Member States in the Organization’s activities and initiatives.

Particular attention was devoted to ICDO training and capacity-building activities, including opportunities to further expand Niger’s participation in relevant programmes and the contribution of additional training activities in Niamey to strengthening national response capacities.

Both sides underlined the importance of strengthening preparedness and resilience in the face of increasingly complex disaster risks, emphasizing the value of broader use of the ICDO’s International Monitoring and Coordination Centre (IMCC) and its capabilities.

The meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere and concluded with a reaffirmation of the shared commitment to further deepen cooperation and maintain regular dialogue on matters of common interest.
