The Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), Mr. Arguj Kalantarli, held an online meeting with Colonel Major Mohamed Rached Souissi, General Director of the National Office of Civil Protection of the Republic of Tunisia and President of the ICDO General Assembly. The meeting reaffirmed the longstanding cooperation between the ICDO and Tunisia and underscored the country's important role within the Organization's governing structure.
The discussions focused on the current priorities of the Organization, including the ongoing institutional reform process, efforts to enhance the effectiveness, and initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation among ICDO Member States. Particular attention was devoted to preparations for the forthcoming statutory meetings of the Organization, as well as the importance of ensuring their successful organization and substantive outcomes.
The two sides also exchanged views on strengthening practical cooperation in the field of civil protection, with particular emphasis on expanding participation in ICDO training programmes, organizing joint capacity-building activities, and enhancing the exchange of expertise and best practices among Member States.
Colonel Major Mohamed Rached Souissi reaffirmed Tunisia's commitment to supporting the ICDO and its institutional development, expressing confidence that the ongoing reform efforts and the forthcoming statutory sessions would further strengthen the Organization's role as a leading intergovernmental platform for international cooperation in civil protection.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their shared commitment to maintaining close cooperation and coordination.
